Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive at Srinagar and Srinagar Sightseeing Tour

Arrive in Srinagar, our team member will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel. Once you’ve checked in, you’ll start exploring Srinagar’s local sights. You’ll visit the beautiful Mughal Gardens, Shankaracharya Temple, and Hazaratbal Shrine, all located near the scenic Dal Lake and against the backdrop of the Zabarwan Mountains. These places are about 12 to 15 kilometers away from the city. On the way, you’ll also get to see a carpet-weaving factory and the old part of Srinagar city.

Day 2Travel from Srinagar to Kargil, passing through Sonamarg

  • After breakfast, we’ll start our journey to Kargil. Along the way, we’ll pass through the beautiful village of Sonamarg, also known as the ‘Meadow of Gold’, set in the stunning Sindh Valley, a major river valley in Kashmir.
  • The drive will get a bit bumpy as we go over the Zojila pass, which is the entrance to Ladakh.
  • After that, we’ll head towards Drass, the second coldest inhibited place in the world. It will take us about two and a half hours more to reach Kargil, a place open to visitors in Ladakh since 1974. We’ll spend the night at a hotel in Kargil.

Day 3Transfer from Kargil to Leh via Lamayuru

  • After having an early breakfast, leave your hotel and start your trip to Leh. On the way, stop by the Mulbekh and Lamayuru monasteries.
  • The Mulbekh Monastery, sitting high on a cliff, has two parts, each from a different Buddhist tradition, and is known for its location and history.
  • Lamayuru Monastery, perched high in the mountains, is a must-see for its size, history, and the fact that it once housed 400 monks, though now it has about 150 years.
  • You’ll also drive through Namkila Pass and Fatula Pass, the highest points on the road to Leh, offering stunning views of snow-covered mountains.
  • Don’t miss the 1000-year-old Alchi Monastery, known for its ancient art, and the Likir Monastery, home to many monks.
  • See the beautiful meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, and make stops at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, the intriguing Magnetic Hill, and the Hall of Fame museum, honouring fallen soldiers.
  • Once you arrive in Leh, check into your hotel for a night’s stay.

Day 4 Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La pass

  • After breakfast, leave the hotel and we’ll drive to Nubra Valley, also known as the ‘valley of flowers,’ which is about 120 kilometres away and takes around 4-5 hours to reach. On the way, you’ll cross over the Khardung La Pass, which is 39 kilometres from Leh and stands at 18,390 feet high, making it the highest road where cars can go in the world. From the top of this pass, you get to see amazing views of the Indus Valley below, along with the tall mountains of the Zanskar range and the massive Saser mountains to the north. Nubra Valley is located to the north of Ladakh, nestled between the Karakoram mountains and the Ladakh range of the Himalayas.
  • When you get to Nubra, go to your hotel or camp in Hunder and check-in. Later in the evening, have a walk around the small villages to see how the local people live. If you want, and if it’s possible, you can also visit a local Ladakhi house for an extra charge. You’ll be staying overnight at the camp or hotel.

Day 5Full Day Trip to Turtuk

Today, after breakfast, we’re heading to an exciting and less-known place called Turtuk Village, which is the last village you can visit before reaching the Pakistan border. It’s a hidden gem in Ladakh and was taken over by India from Pakistan during the 1971 war. The people here have a culture and language similar to Ladakhi, and most follow the Nurbakshi Muslim religion, with some from the Shia community. As you travel, you’ll be amazed by the mountains’ colours changing around you – from various shades of brown to hints of green on the rocks. The journey from Hunder to Turtuk, with its curvy roads, the green Shayok River, and colourful mountains, is going to be one of the highlights of our trip, especially the views near Changmar village. We’ll spend the night in Nubra Valley.

Day 6Transfer from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via Shyok

  • After an early breakfast, we leave our camp or hotel and head towards Hunder. Here, you get a chance to ride Bactrian camels, which have two humps, through the unique sand dunes of this high-altitude desert, with the stunning backdrop of snow-covered mountains. The journey between Hunder and Diskit offers a view of sand dunes right next to the road, making you feel like you’re in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, despite being surrounded by the rocky and snowy landscapes typical of Ladakh.
  • On our way back, we visit Diskit, the main town of Nubra Valley. Take a leisurely walk through the market to see the shops and observe the locals in their daily lives. Diskit is renowned for its 515-year-old Buddhist Monastery, perched on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the entire valley. Known as Diskit Gompa, this monastery is one of the oldest and largest in Leh Ladakh, founded in the 14th century by Changzem Tserab Zangpo. Its highlight is a 100-foot-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha, inaugurated by the Dalai Lama, offering panoramic views of Nubra Valley.
  • Later, we make our way to Pangong Tso via Agham & Shyok Valley. Although some parts of the road are quite challenging, the scenery throughout is incredibly beautiful. Approaching Durbuk & Tangtse towards Pangong, we pass through several small villages in Changthang, until suddenly, the breathtaking Pangong Lake appears before us. Situated at 14,000 feet, this remarkable blue saltwater lake stretches over 133 kilometres, with half of it extending into China. The beauty of this place, popularized by the movie “3 Idiots”, is a magnet for tourists from around the globe, offering an unparalleled connection with nature.
  • Upon reaching, we check into our camp near Pangong Lake, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night.

Day 7Transfer from Pangong Lake to Leh

  • Start your day with a peaceful morning at Pangong Lake, enjoying its stunning scenery before heading to Leh. Pangong Lake, known in Tibet as “high grassland lake,” is one of Asia’s largest saltwater lakes, famous for its appearance in the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots.” This beautiful lake, straddling disputed borders, is being recognized for its ecological importance globally. The first sight of its calm, blue waters against a vast backdrop is truly breathtaking.
  • On your journey to Leh, make sure to visit some remarkable sites like Hemis Gompa, Thiksey Monastery, Rancho School, and Shey Palace.
  • Hemis Gompa: Situated about 40 km from Leh, Hemis Monastery is Ladakh’s largest and most famous monastery, established in 1672 under King Singge Namgyal’s reign. It’s famous for the Hemis Tsechu festival, a vibrant event that attracts many visitors and celebrates with day-long festivities.
  • Thiksey Monastery: Located 19 km from Leh, Thiksey Monastery is known for its resemblance to Lhasa’s Potala Palace. This grand 12-story complex houses an impressive collection of Buddhist art, including a 49-foot-tall statue of the future Buddha, which is the largest in the region.
  • Shey Palace: Near Leh, the ruins of Shey Palace, once a summer retreat built in 1650, are under the Archaeological Survey of India. Although mostly in ruins, it houses the largest statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in Ladakh, made of copper and gold, symbolizing the rich heritage of the area.
  • Rancho School: Gained fame from the movie “Three Idiots,” Druk Padma Karpo School, also known as the Druk White Lotus School, is celebrated for its award-winning, eco-friendly design. Visitors can explore the school with a guide, without disturbing the students, and there’s a café and a souvenir shop on site.

  • After these visits, continue to Leh and settle in at your hotel for the night.
